Less than a Week to go Until the General Election

The general election takes place in less than a week on the 4th July, and ACS (The Association of Convenience Stores) has put together a summary of political party manifestos, highlighting the key policies that will affect the convenience sector should that party win the election.

Below is a brief summary of the policies affecting the sector that each political party will push if they are to win the election. You can also view some of the policies here.

The Liberal Democrats’ Manifesto pledges to make sweeping changes to employment regulations and rights as part of their campaign to form the next Government.

The Green Party’s Manifesto calls for a four-day working week, a £15 minimum wage, and sets out a range of policies aimed at benefitting the environment and accelerating the transition to a net zero economy.

The Conservatives’ Manifesto pledges to cut taxes and reintroduce previous legislation if they were to form the next Government.

Labour’s Manifesto announces that they would ban the sale of high caffeine energy drinks to under 16s if they were to form the next Government.

The Reform Party Manifesto pledges to raise the income tax threshold to £20,000 per annum if they were to form the next Government.

More details can be found by accessing the ACS Election Centre which not only includes manifesto summaries, but also the latest news and updates leading up to the election next Thursday. Retailers can keep up to date with the latest policies and news pushed by political parties by visiting the centre here.

In the lead up to the election so far, retailers have been meeting with local parliamentary candidates standing in their constituency by arranging a store visit so that candidates can understand and experience the important work conducted by the convenience sector. Concluding the election period is ACS’ Heart of the Community event on the 9th July, which takes place just after the election. This event will be a parliamentary reception at the House of Commons Terrace Pavilion, and attendance means you will be one of the first to meet with the newest members of Parliament and network with senior policymakers and politicians while discussing the impact of the political landscape on the convenience sector. Be sure to join us at the reception by booking your place here.
