Every small business in the UK is being urged to take “small, practical steps” this November as part of their journey towards net zero by 2050.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Business and Energy Secretary Kwasi Kwarteng, have launched a new drive to encourage small businesses in the UK to commit to cutting their emissions by half by 2030.

Through the newly formed hub for this initiative (UK Business Climate Hub) these companies will be able to find practical tools and guides on how they can reduce their CO2 emissions.

The hub will create a platform for small businesses, providing them with access to some of the UK’s biggest businesses - including NatWest, Google and ScottishPower. It also provides leading climate experts who can offer advice on how smaller companies can protect the planet by taking simple steps like switching to electric vehicles or exploring environmentally-friendly packaging options.

To become a ‘climate leader’, businesses should sign up to the UK Business Climate Hub and commit net zero emissions.

In order for small business owners in England to be recognized as climate leaders by both the UN Race To Zero campaign and the government, they need only make one commitment: signing up with the UK Business Climate Hub which will help them reduce their carbon footprint.

With six million of these enterprises employing 60% of people across Britain- that is £2 trillion worth annually-, it is crucial that individuals take action so we can succeed in creating a sustainable future together.

Mr Johnson said: “Every step that a small business takes on their journey to net zero adds up – not only in protecting the health of the planet but also in future-proofing their business and encouraging new investment, new customers and new opportunities for growth.

“We are providing the support and advice small businesses need to join us and become leaders in the fight against climate change.
